The Arlington Historical Society in Massachusetts seeks a part-time Administrative Assistant. Primary responsibilities include broad administrative support at the Jason Russell House and Smith Museum in Arlington MA.. Duties will include: routine office inquiries; phone; mailing lists and e-mailings; filing; correspondence; scheduling field trips with local schools, and other duties as necessary. Ideally the assistant will work with social networking and publicity/outreach. There is potential for blogging, for the right candidate. Some work with record-keeping for archival and museum collections. This is a part-time position of ten hours per week. The work is Tuesday – Friday, with some weekend work possible from April – October. School hours are ideal, but there is flexibility in the hours. The Office Assistant will report to the Museum Administrator of the Arlington Historical Society.
Qualifications
Requirements: Bachelor’s degree. Strong written and verbal communication skills, including a high comfort level in dealing with the public; strong administrative and office experience; team player with a collaborative approach; good problem-solving skills; general ease with computers, technology, and learning to use new software and platforms; facility with MS Office; (also, MS Publisher, WordPress, HTML, and image editing a definite plus); ability to work independently; interest in history, or experience in museum or archives setting helpful. Must be able to handle confidential matters appropriately.
About the Company/Organization
The Arlington Historical Society includes the historic Jason Russell House, site of April 19th, 1775 battle, and the Smith Museum. We preserve and interpret the history of Arlington (West Cambridge; Menotomy) MA for the public. We maintain a significant archives and collection related to town history.
