URS is seeking a talented professional to join the Architectural History Team in the Company’s Germantown, Maryland office. Located just 30 miles from the Nation’s Capital, URS Germantown is a dynamic profit center in one of the top architectural design, engineering, and construction firms in the nation. The successful candidate will join an established cultural resources management (CRM) group that includes Architectural Historians, Historians, Historic Architects, Archaeologists, and Conservators working together in a collegial, intellectually-stimulating environment that fosters professional development. The candidate will primarily provide technical support on projects for Federal clients such as FEMA, USACE, and USPS.
Job Responsibilities
Work will include a range of CRM activities for projects nationwide, including: historical research and preparation of historic contexts in support of architectural/archaeological studies; cultural resources survey; documentation and recordation of historic properties; NRHP evaluations (determinations of eligibility/nominations); and effects determinations pursuant to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA). The Architectural Historian will work under the direct supervision of the Architectural History Program Manager and will provide technical support to Project Managers and other professionals as assigned. This position may require long-term, on-site support to major clients requiring travel for extended periods of 3 consecutive months. Accordingly, the successful candidate must be a flexible, enthusiastic, proactive professional committed to client development who can perform successfully in a team environment as well as independently.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architectural History, History, Historic Preservation, American Studies, or closely related discipline; with architectural history or historic preservation concentration or equivalent demonstrated abilities and/or experience.
- Working understanding of the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) Eligibility Criteria.
- Ability to travel for extended periods of 3 or more consecutive months and on short notice.
- Valid Drivers’ License.
- Ability to work in the United States immediately upon hire.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Demonstrated ability in researching historic properties, including up-to-date on-line tools and archival repositories.
- Demonstrated ability in synthesizing research into a written report and communicating findings in a logical and justifiable manner.
- Attention to detail in professional tasks and written products.
