The Preservation Society of Newport County is seeking a volunteer Archives Specialist Intern for the fall semester.
Objective: To comprehensively document the archives through an analysis of manuscripts, analog media, institutional documents, architectural drawings, and ephemera. To accomplish this task, the Intern will examine the primary resources in the archives to create finding aids, digitize selections from the collection, and work under the direction of the Collections Manager to create a proposal for conservation, digitization, and deaccessioning recommendations. This information will serve researchers, benefit museum interpretation, and aid in preservation efforts.
Qualifications: Interns must have previous object handling experience and a familiarity with collections databases. Applicants must be enrolled in or recently graduated from a Masters Program in history, museum studies, library sciences, or a related field. This position is unpaid, but university credit may be arranged.
