Functions Manager,
Lyman Estate, MA


The functions manager is responsible for the management and marketing of the functions rental business for Historic New England, with emphasis on the Lyman Estate in Waltham, Massachusetts, and the Codman Estate Carriage House in Lincoln, Massachusetts. The position is responsible for meeting approved budget goals and for maximizing income earned through the rental of specified buildings and grounds while working within Historic New England’s preservation philosophy and practices. The position is responsible for supervising functions staff including hiring, training, and managing performance to meet approved financial and program goals and objectives and ensures excellent planning, execution, and staffing of all events. The functions manager serves as the internal expert on historic site function rentals and is a resource for site managers throughout the region. The position works with Historic New England’s marketing team to develop and implement marketing plans in order to meet or exceed goals set by the organization and actively promotes and sells Historic New England locations for private events, including but not limited to weddings, corporate events, and private parties. The functions manager develops and monitors annual budgets and oversees the preparation of rental contracts, confirmation letters, caterer contracts, and other documents.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, hospitality, or related field. Four years of job-related experience, preferably in hotel, catering, venue, or restaurant sales. Professional experience and proven track record in selling, planning, organizing, and executing social and corporate events. Must be a self starter, energetic, results driven, and goal oriented. Requires ability and desire to work with the public with high standards for customer service. Requires exceptional verbal and written communication skills, and strong computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, internet, and e-mail. A high level of flexibility is required, including the ability to work weekend and evening hours. Ability to drive and a valid driver’s license is required.
