The Thomas Jefferson Foundation is providing a paid 9-month graduate internship as institutional training to a recent graduate interested in pursuing a career in historic sites or museums.
Job Responsibilities
Working closely with professional staff at Monticello, the intern will participate in the ongoing work of the Education and Visitor Programs department, complete a project or a discrete portion of a larger project, and provide a variety of visitor programs including house tours and school programs. The 2012-2013 intern will help build stronger relationships between Monticello and local Virginia teachers through outreach and professional development programs in addition to other projects as assigned. The internship will run from August 27, 2012 through May 31, 2013, 40-hours/week with a Tuesday through Saturday schedule. Some holiday work is required.
Qualifications
Successful candidates will demonstrate the intention to pursue a career working in historic sites or museums, strong interpersonal skills, and a background in historical interpretation. S/he must also be extremely proficient with standard computer software such Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. S/he must be committed to working as part of a team to ensure an excellent visitor experience.
