The Texas State Preservation Board Internship Program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate level students unpaid internships within a selected department at the Agency. Internships offer students an opportunity to gain practical public administration, museum, historical collections/curatorial, visitor services, and/or facilities management experience relevant to their coursework.

Goals

  • The State Preservation Board Internship Program will:
  • Give students an overview of state government by working closely with staff at the State Preservation Board
  • Provide students with experience in a working professional office environment
  • Provide students with experience in the Museum, Historical Collections/Curatorial, Visitor Services, and Facilities Management fields
  • Enhance appreciation of public service
  • Allow students to earn course credit, depending on degree plan and institution
  • Enable students to build a resume prior to securing paid employment

Job Responsibilities

Primary duties consist of:

  • Performing support work for division program areas
  • Providing support for on-going and special projects
  • Conducting research as necessary for various projects
  • Preparing correspondence, reports, studies, forms and documents
  • Researching, composing, designing, or editing agency publications, forms, and manuals Internships

Internships
Internships may be available in the following division programs:

  • Administration, including Staff Services; Information Resources; Executive Management; Administrative Law; Accounting
  • Facilities Management
  • Graphic Design
  • Enterprise Management, including Retailing, Parking Administration, and Food Services
  • Historical Collections/Curatorial, including historic decorative arts, furnishings, artwork in the Texas Capitol, and the photographic and video graphic collections
  • Capitol Visitors Services, including tourism promotion, exhibit development, and heritage/ cultural tourism
  • Texas State History Museum, including Administration; Technical Theater; Public Programming and Exhibits; Education; Public Relations; Marketing; Graphic Design; Membership; Rentals and Special Events; Volunteer and Docent Administration

About the Company/Organization

The State Preservation Board preserves and maintains the Texas Capitol, the Capitol Extension, the 1857 General Land Office Building, other designated buildings, their contents and their grounds and operates the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum. We provide educational programs centered on Texas history. These services benefit the citizens of Texas and its visitors.
