Under the direction of the Preservation Planner, the Preservation Survey Intern performs work to complete intensive surveys of historic resources in Park County. This position also supports the Preservation Planner in researching local nominations and other duties as needed. This is a grant funded, full time internship expected to last four months.
Job Responsibilities
Under the direction of the Preservation Planner of the Office of Historic Preservation:
- Conduct intensive surveys of historic resources according to the Colorado Office of Archaeology and Historic Preservation policies and standards.
- Photograph historic resources using digital cameras
- Assist the Preservation Planner with research for local nominations
- Create and maintain accurate maps of surveyed resources
- Communicate with the public about the purpose and process of historic resource surveys
- Assist property owners with application processes for nominations as needed
- Stay abreast of current events relative to historic preservation. Notify appropriate parties when action is needed.
Assistance for South Park National Heritage Area:
- Provide assistance to the Executive Director of the South Park National Heritage Area as requested
- Collaborate with Heritage Area staff on current projects and programs
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements: Bachelors degree in Historic Preservation or Architectural History OR one year of graduate level coursework in Historic Preservation, Architectural History, History, Architecture, or a related field; Knowledge of historic resource survey techniques and research methods; Familiarity with historic preservation regulations, processes, and procedures; Familiarity with Park County and Colorado history and geography beneficial; Must pass background check; Excellent verbal and written communication skills Other qualifications: Computer skills including proficiency with relevant software programs such as Microsoft Office and Adobe Photoshop; Survey experience in Colorado preferred; Experience with architectural photography in digital format; Ability to research and write local nominations for designation as Park County Historic Landmarks; Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with Boards, the business community, consultants, developers, governmental agencies, and the general public; Ability to travel locally and regionally; Ability to work independently and complete projects
