The Historical Society of Pennsylvania (Philadelphia) seeks a Project Intern to work on a pilot digital historical documentary editing project. This 15-hour per week, two-year, grant-funded position reports to the Project Manager.
Responsibilities include:
Serve as project intern for the Greenfield digital project. This interpretive project, based on HSP’s Albert M. Greenfield Papers, one of HSP’s largest and most significant collections documenting Philadelphia’s 20th-century history, will focus on the early years of the Great Depression in Pennsylvania. Project intern will:
- Transcribe and XML encode documents and images from the Greenfield Papers and related collections
- Work with HSP digitization staff to digitize documents and images
- Research and write annotation and contextual essays
- Contribute to development of related educational resources
- Work with Project Manager and Director of Information Technology to develop user-friendly, engaging public interface on HSP’s Web site
- Assist on HSP print publications (Pennsylvania Magazine of History and Biography and Pennsylvania Legacies) as needed
Qualifications: Master’s degree (or working towards a graduate degree) in American history or related field, specialization in 20th-century history preferred; experience in scholarly editing and knowledge of XML encoding a plus. Computer skills and willingness to work as part of a team essential. Salary $15/hour, 15 hours/week, 45 weeks/year.
