Time and Space on the Lower East Side
The Greenwich Village Society for Historic Preservation

In 1980, Brian Rose, in collaboration with Ed Fausty, photographed scenes from the Lower East Side with a 4×5 view camera. After the wrenching events of 9/11, Mr. Rose was drawn back to the sites of his original pictures. While keeping an eye on the 1980 photographs, he sought to rediscover his Lower East Side neighborhood with the perspective of time, change, and history. The resulting book, Time and Space on the Lower East Side, is a set of photographs that looks backward and forward, that posits the idea that places are not simply “then and now,” but exist in a continuum of decay and rebirth. The book will be available for sale and signing.
