Traveling Exhibitions Registrar,
Missouri History Museum


As a primary responsibility, the Traveling Exhibitions Registrar will join The American Revolution on the Frontier exhibition team, and must quickly assume registrarial responsibilities for the implementation of a complex, nationally traveling exhibition, including loan negotiations, contract review, data management for objects as well as facility and security reports in coordination with lending institutions in the U.S., Canada, and the U.K. The Traveling Exhibitions Registrar works with a staff of professional curators, librarians, archivists, collections managers, registrars, exhibit designers, preparators and conservators to track and care for exhibition objects and elements. The Traveling Exhibitions Registrar should be familiar with all aspects of museum collections responsibility, according to national professional standards.

This a full-time temporary position scheduled to last thru 2016.

Qualifications

Must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the professional standards for the shipping, valuation and insurance, handling, housing, exhibiting, and documentation of historical objects. Experience in loan negotiation for traveling exhibitions is desirable. Excellent written and verbal communications skills required. Ability to work with minimal day-to-day supervision in a collaborative environment. Ability to assist in planning production schedule and proven record in adhering to project schedules and budgets.

MA degree in history, museum studies, art, or related field and 3-5 years working in a museum or historical society with collections, archives, and/or historical research or BA degree and 5-7 years of experience as a collections registrar or similar experience. Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, and Powerpoint/Keynote), as well as collection management databases. Experience with Mimsy a plus. Experienced in artifact handling, with the dexterity to handle fragile artifacts safely. Object photography skills preferred.
